What is Excel report automation?

Excel report automation replaces repeated copying, cleaning and calculating with reusable data preparation and a reporting model. For this package, MetricVale uses Power Query, a data model and DAX measures to produce one repeatable Power BI reporting process from your agreed source files.

THE FIXED PACKAGE

What £1,495 includes.

The reporting questions, KPI definitions, source access and delivery plan are agreed before work starts.

Payment and licence costs

The project fee is split into £747.50 to start and £747.50 on completion. Microsoft licence costs are separate and depend on your publishing, sharing and refresh requirements. The confirmed quote sets out the agreed scope and charges before you proceed.

A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Is your report
ready for this?

A good fit

Your team repeats a reporting cycle, the relevant data already exists in structured files or tables, and the work can be contained within one process and the agreed page and KPI limits.

Outside this package

APIs, ERP integrations, Fabric or data warehouses, real-time reporting, large migrations, complex row-level security, embedded portals, custom software and source-system repair. Additional requirements need a separate scope.

AUTOMATING YOUR WEEKLY EXCEL REPORT

What does refresh depend on?

A reusable model still needs usable source data. We check where the files are held, how they are updated, who can access them and what Power BI needs to reach them. Some environments require a gateway; sharing and refresh also depend on the relevant licences and permissions.

Source column names and structure need to stay consistent with the agreed model. New columns, changed KPI definitions or new source systems can require changes to the build. The runbook explains the routine your team should follow.

A SMALL RECONCILIATION EXAMPLE

Show where the number comes from.

In the illustrative week on our homepage, the source rows contain 516 jobs in the workload and 428 completions.

The measure definition, denominator and rounding rule are agreed for the report. Reconciliation checks that the displayed number matches that definition and the source data.

GETTING STARTED

What to prepare.

  1. Your current report

Show the output your team produces today and who uses it.

  2. One representative source sample

Start with an anonymised sample. Agree a suitable transfer method before sharing business data.

  3. The questions and KPIs

List the decisions the report should support, the measures and their definitions.

  4. Access and feedback

Identify the source owner, sharing needs and the person who will review the report.

Use our guide to preparing a weekly Excel report for Power BI to check the source table, KPI definitions and update routine.

Planned delivery is ten working days from an agreed start with representative data and access in place. Client feedback or access delays can affect that schedule.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Before
the build.

Keep the source, sharing and maintenance requirements clear.

01Can my team keep using Excel?

Yes. Your agreed source files remain the input to the reporting process. Keep the required columns and file structure consistent, and follow the runbook for updating them. Power BI provides the reporting view; it does not repair the source system.

02Can you automate a daily or weekly refresh?

Scheduled refresh is included where the source environment supports it. The source files must be available and updated when needed. We check access, credentials, licences and any gateway requirements before agreeing the refresh plan. Real-time reporting is outside the fixed package.

03What if I need more than three sources or report pages?

That requirement falls outside the fixed package. Narrow the reporting process or discuss a separate scope before work starts. The £1,495 fee is for one process, up to three structured sources, up to three pages and around ten core KPIs.

04Do Microsoft 365 licences cover every Power BI requirement?

Licensing depends on how the report will be published, shared and refreshed. We check your existing setup during scoping. Microsoft licences are separate from the reporting build; do not assume an existing Microsoft 365 subscription covers every requirement.

05What do I receive at handover?

The agreed report, a 45-minute walkthrough and a one-page runbook covering the reporting routine. The package includes one revision and a 14-day defect-fix period after delivery. New requirements and ongoing maintenance need a separate scope.

06Should I upload my business data to this website?

No. The project-fit check does not upload or transmit source data. Start with an anonymised sample and agree a suitable transfer method before sharing business information.
